This is a survivor-run project. Some of what we publish is deeply personal, and some of it names churches, schools, and leaders. This page explains how we approach that, so writers and readers know what to expect.
Stories are written by the people who lived them, and they're published under a real name or "Anonymous," whichever the writer chooses. Nothing goes live automatically. We read every submission and follow up with the writer if we have questions before anything is published. We edit for typos only, unless the writer asks for other changes.
A story is one person's account of their own experience and memory. We present it that way, not as a finding of fact about any church, leader, or organization.
This site is not a database of private individuals, and we don't publish names of private individuals without a good reason. Where a writer's account involves a private person who isn't part of the public record, we'll talk with the writer about whether the name needs to be there before the story goes live. Churches, schools, and leaders who speak or act publicly may be named where that's part of the account.
Our blog posts are our own analysis, often of sermons and other material that was delivered or distributed publicly. Documents we host are included so readers can see primary sources for themselves, and we quote or reproduce them for documentation and commentary. If you hold rights to something on this site and would like it removed, write to us and we'll review the request.
